Registration and payment can be completed online, by phone at 906-487-2073, or at the SDC Ticket Office. Participants (or parent/guardian if the participant is under age 18) must sign a waiver of liability and concussion awareness form prior to participation. The SDC is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Please do not leave valuables unattended.
The COVID-19 Visitor Symptom Tracking Form is required to be completed by all participants before every class session. Masks are required throughout the building except while swimming or showering. Space will be provided for personal items on the pool deck. Class size is limited and based on social distancing. Showering is required before entering the water.
American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Blended Learning Course
Earn your American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification in this 3-day intensive training course located at the Michigan Tech SDC Pool. The certification includes Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications and all training materials. All participants must be 15 years of age or older by the first date of the course (documentation required). Required water skills include the ability to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, and complete a timed event in which participants retrieve a 10-pound brick from a depth of 7-10 feet and swim 20 yards with the object. Online training prerequisites must be completed by the first day of classroom instruction. The instructor will contact class participants with online course information and directions.

The Student Development Complex lap pool and dive tank are licensed by the State of Michigan and inspected by the Western U.P. District Health Department. Accordingly, the water is analyzed and the temperature is taken daily. The new heating system keeps the water at a constant 82-83 degrees.
About the Aquatics Manager
Ann Bengry comes to Michigan Tech from Saginaw Valley State University, where she served as the Assistant Swimming and Diving coach for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons. At SVSU, Annie led the sprint group and coordinated the Cardinal Aquatic Swim Lessons program. Annie attended Saint Leo University, where she served as a Graduate Assistant Coach for the Men’s and Women’s Swimming teams from 2015-2018. While earning her Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Business, she helped assist in coaching multiple All-American student-athletes and guided several student athletes to national qualifying performances.
Prior to Saint Leo, Annie, a native of Marquette, MI, served as a volunteer coach for Northern Michigan University’s Women’s Swim Team while earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Science.
A former collegiate swimmer and diver, Annie also trained for three years as an Olympic weightlifter at the US Olympic Training Site at Northern Michigan University. Annie has also served as a swim coach, lifeguard, swim instructor and aquatics assistant at the YMCA of Marquette County and the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA. She is a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor.
